Grades 2-5. Kids will go on a cartoon hike and decide where we go, who me meet, and what happens next! We might draw wildlife! Weird plants! Quicksand! Bigfoot! Squirrels! (OK, that last one is pretty mediocre.) It’s a fun free-for-all that’s different every time!
Ages 9-adult. Learn or improve your programming skills with the LEGO Mindstorms modules and apply them to various challenges. You must have attended the Basics Robotics class. A Build-A-Robot session does not qualify. Register for each class. Limited to 8 pairs (16 total participants). As participants will work in pairs, please sign up with two people from the same household (e.g. an adult and child, or two children that live together). Singles will have to work alone.
Get off the roads and into the forest preserves and learn the basics of orienteering. First, a brief (20 minute) presentation and introduction to the compass, map orientation/reading, participant orientation and course selection. Then we’ll head outside for a fun course demonstration. Join us and learn about the sport that has been popular in Europe for many years and is just starting to be popular here in the U.S.!

Michelle Zauner is best known as a singer and guitarist who creates dreamy, shoegaze-inspired indie-pop under the name Japanese Breakfast. She has won acclaim from major music outlets around the world for releases like Psychopomp (2016) and Soft Sounds from Another Planet (2017). Critically acclaimed Jubilee (2021) is currently nominated for two Grammy awards. Crying in H Mart is her first book.
Jessica Hopper is a music critic, producer and author based in Chicago. In a career spanning more than twenty years, Hopper has earned acclaim as a provocative, fearless music journalist. She has written for, among others, GQ, Rolling Stone, The New York Times Magazine, The Guardian, Elle, and the Chicago Reader. She is the author of The First Collection of Criticism By A Living Female Rock Critic and co-founded Golden Teapot, a production company specializing in music and culture documentary work,
Ages 3-6. Learn English and Spanish words for animals with this wild and wooly @Home Kit.

Adults and Teens. Join us for a creative introduction to The Full Deck Challenge, a Facebook group inspired to artistically alter a full deck of playing cards in whatever style you like. Local Mixed-media artist, Jennifer Lilliebridge, will teach you several techniques for altering the base layer for five of your cards to get you started. Each student will receive a full deck of playing cards, sample the techniques, & then embellish them with crafty goodies from the "buffet" of items provided. Students will leave with 3-4 completed cards to start you off on your own Full Deck Challenge adventure. This class/challenge allows you the freedom to create what inspires you, not necessarily exact copies of any samples provided, so...Creative Spirits, welcome...let's revel in the exchange of ideas, the paths of curiosity, & the joy of happy accidents on a tiny 2.5" X 3.5" canvas!
All ages. A fast-paced comedy, juggling, & variety show that is perfect for all ages! Kids will be laughing the entire time. It keeps them engaged and entertained! Tons of comedy and audience participation with volunteers and the entire group of kids as a whole! Lots of interactive juggling and balancing routines with all sorts of cool and wacky objects and a huge finale!
Ages 8 & up. It’s balloon time! And YOU get to create balloon art! Some artists use paint. Some use crayons or markers, even Play-doh, while other artists use computers to make art! And some artists use balloons! A mini balloon show starts it all off with comedy, audience participation, and an introduction to the “tools” that balloon artists use to create their art! Kids will get a chance to make several different balloon creations and kids learn that by using their imagination and keeping an open mind to things that are new and different, they can create anything! Kids also learn how to practice on their own, the resources they can use to learn more about balloon twisting, and where they can find these tools to continue their interest! Kids leave the program with all of the balloons they got to make!
Exchange ideas in an online discussion about the foreign policy issues facing America today in this monthly discussion led by Professor Gary Midkiff. Participants must purchase a briefing book and read a chapter prior to each meeting. This is an eight month series that will begin in February. One nice aspect of this program is that each chapter stands by itself so you can join the group at any time. Briefing Book $15.00. No refunds.
On the second Friday of each month, get a themed goodie bag filled with a surprise book to check out, an activity, and bonus items. At the end of the month, keep the activity and return the book! Participants will be emailed after sign-up with a survey about their reading preferences and again when their bags are ready to be picked up. This program is for Cary card holders only.

Participants will get a book with a Medieval theme, supplies to make a dragon egg craft, and other knightly goodies.
The Cary Area Writers Group meets on the second Saturday of each month. We welcome any and all authors age 21+ who have an interest in writing.. Bring a copy of what you wrote or 4-5 copies to pass around. We only allow gentle, constructive critiques that are designed to enhance each writer’s skills. Writers helping writers. Questions? Embark on an adventure to stop Herobrine and save villagers! Your help is needed to solve challenges and puzzles along the way to win against the game. Expect code words, clue-finding, parkour, and more all within this program!
Grades 6-12. Make a moving piece of art! In this class we will make a small box that holds a scrolled up watercolor painting of a sunset. Twist the scroll in the box and watch the sunset turn into the night sky.
This is a two day class of four hours each for motorists aged 50 and older. Pre-registration is required along with attendance both days. Learn what’s new on the driving scene and keep your skills current. Your class certificate qualifies you to receive a discount on the liability portion of your auto insurance. AARP membership is not required. However, bring your AARP card, if you are an AARP member, and Driver's License to class the first day. $20 for AARP members and $25 for non-members.
